A news channel cameraman and a farmer were separately gored to death by a bison in a sugarcane field near Aakurde village in Kolhapur district today, the police said.

The farmer, identified as Anil Pawar (around 30), had gone to the field to collect fodder at around 11 am when he was attacked by the bison, the official said, adding that Pawar died on the spot.

Meanwhile, Raghunath Shinde (52), who was working as the cameraman for the channel based in Kolhapur, was going to Aakurde in afternoon to attend a marriage ceremony of his nephew, the official said.

As Shinde came to know about the incident, he decided to visit the farm and shoot visuals of the bison, he added.

However, as Shinde was filming, the bison charged at him and gored him, the official said, adding that Shinde died on his way to Kolhapur.

Gargoti police are investigating the matter.

While it was maintained that the same bison attacked Pawar and Shinde, some villagers said there were two bisons. However, this could not be confirmed from Forest department.
