Two killed in elephant attack in Assam

Two persons were killed by a herd of wild elephants in Sonitpur district here, a forest official said.

The herd of 60 pachyderms, coming from Sonai Rupai wildlife sanctuary, trampled the two to death at a paddy field in Darang Tea Estate area last night, West Division Assistant Conservator of Forest Bidyut Borthakur said.

The deceased have been identified as Roben Surin (55) and Dipak Tirki (33).

The elephants hailed from Sonai Rupai and were on a rampage for last couple of days in and around Panbari line under Salanibari police outpost. They trooped in Darang Tea Estate area only last night.
