Two killed in head-on collision between trucks in Bengal

Two persons were killed

in a head-on collision between two trucks on National Highway 12 in West Bengal's Nadia district on Friday, police said.

The incident occurred at Champatala in Shantipur police station area around 8.40 am when a truck lost control while trying to avoid hitting a heap of stone chips dumped on the roadside and collided with another truck coming from the opposite direction, an officer said.

Two persons, helpers of the two trucks, were injured in the incident and taken to a state-run hospital in Shantipur town, where they were declared brought dead, he said.

The identity of the deceased persons is yet to be ascertained, the officer said.

 

The stone chips dumped on the side of NH 12 for the repair of the highway had allegedly blocked a part of the road, sources said.

Traffic movement on the highway was disrupted for two hours due to the accident, they said.
