Two persons were killed in lightning in separate places in Odisha's Ganjam district as incessant rains continued to pound it.

Lighting struck the two when they were working in their farms, said district emergency officer in-charge Pragyan Chhatoi.

They were immediately rushed to nearby hospitals, where doctors declared them brought dead, sources said.

The widespread rains have led to the rise in water levels of almost all rivers in the district. Despite it the flood situation has not worsened, engineers of the water resources department said.

Water level of almost all reservoirs in the district remained below their danger levels said chief engineer and basin manager, Rushikulya, Vansadhara and Nagabali basins, Rabindra Kumar Panda.

The district has recorded an average of 52.4 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours that ended on Monday morning.

Meanwhile district administration has alerted the BDOs and tehsildars to remain prepared for any eventuality due to the heavy rains.
