Two KPLT militants killed in encounter in Assam

Two militant leaders of the banned Karbi Peoples' Liberation Tigers (KPLT) were killed and another was arrested in an encounter in Karbi Anglong district today.

Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of police and Army launched an operation in Langlaksho village last night and a group of militant fired at the team early this morning, SP M J Mahanta said.

In the ensuing encounter two militants were injured, but they could flee the spot. During a search operation, the security team found the duo and took them to hospital where they were declared brought dead, Mahanta said.

They were identified as self styled 'Deputy Commander-in Chief' Arkoi Bey and 'Corporal' Jutang Rongphar, he said.
 

The SP said another militant was arrested during the encounter.

The security forces recovered an AK-47 rifle and two pistols from the spot.
