Two labourers choked to death after inhaling a poisonous gas in a brick kiln in Shahpura town here.

Govind Nishad and Sushil Shukla of Hussainganj village in Uttar Pradesh's Fatherpur district had stepped into the 13- feet deep line of the brick kiln to rectify a fault.

They fell unconscious. Other labourers pulled them out with the help of a rope, SHO Chanwaji Rajveer Singh said.

The duo were rushed to a hospital where they were declared brought dead.

Police said the brick kiln owner is on the run after the incident. A case has been registered against him.
