Two labourers died of suffocation while cleaning a newly-constructed septic tank at Bamakoi village in Ganjam district, about 40-km from here today.
Police said the incident occurred in the morning when one of the victims climbed down into the septic tank to clean it. But when he did not respond after some time, the other person too entered into the tank.
When there was no response from either from inside the tank, the people removed the cover and dragged them out.
They were rushed to a local hospital and then shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital here. The doctors in the medical college declared them brought dead.
The two were identified as hailing from the same village, the police said adding a case of unnatural death was registered.
