Two labourers died in Betul district of Madhya Pradesh today while climbing down into a well.
The incident took place at Tapatjhiri village under Athner police station limits, police said.
A well had been dug using explosives, and the labourers were going down to clear up the debris.
"Four labourers were descending down into the well with the help of a wire-rope. The accident occurred when the wire- rope snapped in the middle," said Poornendra Singh, in-charge of Athner police station.
Narayan Ghorse (45) and Dulichand Rajjad (70) were killed while Raju Lohar and Anil Lohar were injured and admitted to a hospital.
Police have registered a case and started an inquiry.
