Two labourers were killed and 23 others injured as an under-construction building collapsed here today afternoon.

Additional Superintendent of Police S Sahu said, "Two pillars of an under-construction building at Bargi Hills under Tilwara police station limits collapsed. The iron net structure of the roof came down subsequently. Two labourers, trapped under the debris, died while 23 others were injured."

The deceased were identified as Vinay Bari (36) and Sunil Dubey (30).

Sahu said the injured were rescued with the help of other labourers and rushed to Government Medical College Hospital. There were ten women among the injured.

District collector Chhavi Bharadwaj, who visited the site, said a judicial inquiry would be conducted into the incident by an SDM-level officer, and if the construction was found to be sub-standard, an FIR would be registered against the builder.

An aid of Rs four lakh would be given to the family members of the deceased while the injured would be treated free of cost, she added.
