Two lakh personnel for pulse polio programme in TN

Tamil Nadu Government today said it will set up over 43,000 booths and involve two lakh personnel to conduct the Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) programme on January 19 and February 23.

All arrangements have been made to conduct the campaign on these days by establishing 43,051 booths in all PHCs, Government Hospitals/ICDS centres, Noon meal centres, schools and other important places, a state government release here said.

Children aged between 0-5 years should be administered with two drops of the polio vaccine on the two days and the booths will function from 7 am to 5 pm.

Children immunized recently under Routine Immunization Schedule should also be given Polio drops, it added.
 

Private doctors will also administer polio drops in their clinics on and children of migrant labourers will also be covered.

Futher, 1,652 transit booths will be functioning in major bus stands, railway stations and airports during the campaign days to cover the children on travel while 1,000 mobile teams have also been formed to administer polio drops to children living in remote and inaccessible migrant areas, it said.

About two lakhs personnel from various Government and Non- Governmental organisations including Rotary International will be involved in the first phase on January 19, the release added.
