A pair of leopards were found dead in the forested area of Ghunsu village, located near the core area of Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve (BTR) in the district.

The leopard and leopardess were possibly killed by poachers through electrocution two days ago. The carcasses were found last night, forest officials said today.

"A hunt has been launched to track down the poachers. It seems that the poachers laid an electric trap to kill some smaller animals....We will be able to say something concrete after the probe. Both the carcasses were intact," chief conservator of forests Sunil Kumar Agrawal, who arrived here from Shahdol, said.

Autopsy will be conducted shortly. The forest department has pressed a sniffer dog from Sagar district into service to search for the poachers.
