These memorials were located on the basis of information provided by local sources, Kondagaon SP D Shravan told PTI by phone.

First of them, around 15 feet high, was found in forest near Toyanar and Madanar villages, he said.

The second memorial, which was 20 feet high, was spotted in jungles of Cherang village, the SP said.

Both structures were pulled down by police teams with help from local villagers, Shravan said.

Maoists often erect memorials deep inside forests in honour of their associates and leaders who are killed by security forces.
