Two men caught with tiger skin

Two persons were today arrested by Madhya Pradesh police with tiger skin from Bhandara district, police said.

Acting on a tip off, Balaghat police from the neighbouring state of Madhya Pradesh caught two persons -- Meghrajani (45), and Sudhakar Govinda Khatwani (40) -- with tiger skin which they were carrying with them in a Maruti Alto, they said.

The police intercepted the vehicle near Dhapewada barrier on the Nainpur-Balaghat Road, following which the skin of fully grown tiger kept under the seat in the rear side of the vehicle.

During interrogation both Meghrajani and Khatwani confessed that they were taking the skin to Nagpur to sell it, police said.
 

The cost of the tiger skin in the international market is of Rs 10 lakh.

An offence under Section 9, 49 (B), 50, 51 of the Wildlife Protection Act 1972 has been registered against the accused.

The police seized their car. Further investigation is underway.
