A two-month old baby, with complaints of white reflex in both eyes, was successfully operated upon seven days ago for cataracts and was now able to follow light.
The parents of the child, hailing from Tirupur, had noticed the reflex in the eyes and brought him to a private eye Care Hospital here.
On examining, white mature cataract was found through the dilated pupil with presence of Nystagmus, a condition where the eyeball moves constantly in a jerky fashion which hampers the vision on fixing, Dr L Srinivasan, Medical Director,told reporters today.

The child was able to follow the light the next day itself after the surgery.
Congenital cataracts usually were diagnosed in newborns and intrauterine infections, metabolic disorders and genetically transmitted syndromes were some of the factors that caused cataract, Srinivasan said.
