Two more officers removed by EC in West Bengal

A district magistrate and a superintendent of police today were shunted out by Election Commission after a review of preparedness of the ongoing West Bengal Assembly elections.

South 24 Parganas District Magistrate P B Salim and Superintendent of Police of North 24 Parganas district Tanmoy Roy Chowdhury have been transferred to non-election posts with immediate effect, officials said.

Polling in the two districts will be held in the fourth and fifth phases on April 25 and 30.

Salim has been replaced by Avanindra Singh, Commissioner of School Education, while Roy Chowdhury by Annappa E, Superintendent of Railway Police at Siliguri.
 

The new officers have been asked to take over their new responsibilities with immediate effect, officials said.

Ever since the election process began, the poll panel has transferred a number of officials, including a district magistrate, several superintendents of police and even Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar.
