Two naxal sympathisers held with demonetised banknotes

Two suspected Maoist sympathisers were arrested in Khammam district of Telangana with demonetised currency of Rs 70,000 which they were unable to exchange, police said today.

According to Cherala Police Station Sub-Inspector Ravinder, two petty businessmen--G Rajesh and Ajit M, were arrested near Taliperu area bordering Chattisgarh.

"The duo were given old currency (by naxals) and they went to Hyderabad and bought jungle boots and other articles for Maoists.

"They were unable to exchange Rs 70,000 (in old currency note of Rs 500) with the new ones and the same was recovered from them while they were travelling on a bike last evening towards Chattisgarh," the Sub-Inspector said.
 

They were booked under Telangana State Security Act and produced before a court. Probe is on.
