Two new children's home for both boys and girls would be set up in Bal Bhawan, Rohtak and Hansi in Hisar respectively while an observation home would be set up in Karnal, Haryana's Director General, Women and Child Development Department, Sumita Misra said here.

"With a view to augment the government-run child care institutions and to supplement and strengthen the capacity established under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection) Act, 2000, these homes are being set up," Misra said.

She said that the department has released Rs 37 lakh for construction of the children home in Rohtak, the first of its kind in the district.

It will have a capacity of 50 inmates and would also function as a shelter home under the provisions of the Act, she said.

The children home, to be set up in Hisar district and observation home in Karnal will have capacity of 50 inmates each, Misra added.

Earlier, 'Apna Ghar', a shelter home in Rohtak run by a private NGO, ran into controversy and was later sealed by the authorities following allegations of sexual abuse and torture of inmates lodged there.
