Two newly-raised Infantry Battalions get 'Nishan'

Army chief General Dalbir Singh Suhag today presented the Colours or 'Nishan' as popularly known, to two newly-raised Infantry Battalions - 23 Grenadiers and 24 Grenadiers, here.

The event included a parade by the contingents comprising the two battalions. A fly-past by Para Motors also added colour to the event which was attended by many distinguished guests from various fields.

The Chief of the Army Staff also congratulated the newly-raised Battalions for their performance at the very initial stages of their service and exhorted them to perform their best always.

The Grenadiers is one of the oldest and largest Regiments of Infantry with a large number of Gallantry Awards.
 

The Regiment has an impeccable record in battle, both pre- and post-independence. The Regiment has won five Victoria Crosses before independence and three Param Vir Chakras and two Ashok Chakras, post independence.
