Two Nigerian nationals were arrested near the Indo-Nepal border in East Champaran district while trying to sneak into Indian territory and handed over to the National Investigating Agency, police said today.

The two Nigerian nationals - who identified themselves as Ohjurme Victor Ugochukwu and Seriki Abayomi Jelili - were arrested in the Raxaul police station area of East Champaran district yesterday, Raxaul SHO Ajay Kumar said.

He said during interrogation, the Nigerians said that they were football players on their way to attend a tournament in Kolkata and they were coming from Kathmandu.

The SHO said information provided by the Nigerians was found to be "at variance with the entries in their passports", though he declined to divulge details.

"Besides, a number of documents and a pen drive was seized from their possession. The contents of the seized items prompted us to inform the NIA, which sent a team here and the two Africans were taken into custody for questioning", the SHO said.
