Two notorious gangsters including a inter-state gang member were arrested with arms and ammunition during a search operation jointly launched by the Bistupur and Sakchi police here today, a senior police officer said.
Acting on a tip-off that four miscreants on two motorcycles were heading towards Mango locality, Senior Superintendent of Police, Amol V Homkar and Superintendent of Police (city) Karthik S told newsmen that a search operation was launched by the police to arrest them.
The miscreants, however, fled when the police tried to intercept them near a school on Straightmie Road but the police gave a hot chase and arrested two of them, Homkar said.

During interrogation, the arrested miscreants identified themselves as Sonu Mishra, a resident of Chaparia Mohalla under Jugsalai police station here, and Abhijit Majumdar alias Tony Majumdar, a resident of Birsanagar under Birsanagar police station.
The miscreants confessed that they had plan murder a Bagbera-based businessman here over an old enmity, Homkar said adding that the criminals had done recce about their target since last three days.
In fact, they wanted to eliminate the businessman today itself but could not succeeded, Police Officer said.
He said police has recovered four loaded country-made pistols, one 9mm pistol, 15 live cartridges of 315 bore and seven live cartridges of 9mm bore and also seized the motorcycle.
While 10 cases including attempt to murder, extortion, arms act were pending against Mishra, six cases have been registered against Majumdar, who operates in Seraikela-Kharswan district and Purulia in West Bengal, besides Jamshedpur.
Homkar said a special police team was formed to arrest the criminals, who managed to escape.
