Two octogenarian women were killed and six others injured, when the wall of an old age home collapsed today following heavy rains accompanied by strong wind at Kasigoundanpudur, some 25 kms from Tirupur in the district.
Police said the women, Pappammal (80) and Meenammal (88) were caught under the debris and died on the spot, while the injured, including two men, were admitted to the Government Hospital in Avanashi.
The area experienced sudden showers around 4 pm and the steel sheet roof of the first floor of the home, "Anbalayam", was blown away and the wall came down, they said.
