Two members of a family were killed in a landslide in the wee hours today and a large stretch of land was swept away as intermittent rains continued to lash most parts of Uttarakhand.

An elderly woman and her granddaughter were killed when debris from a landslip fell on their home at Kot village, Ghansali SDM Jagdish Lal said.

In another incident near Chinyalisaur in Uttarkashi district, a large stretch of land was washed away in a cloudburst last night, officials said.

Uttarkashi district received maximum rainfall of 72 mm since last night, whereas Chamoli and Rudraprayag districts received 60 mm rains each, the MeT department said.

Most of the rivers, including Mandakini, Alaknanda, Bhagirathi, Pindar and Ganga, are in spate following intermittent rains for the past few days.
