According to the police, Chetna (51), wife of Jayant Ajmera, was found murdered at her residence in Vaishali apartment near Vikrant circle on the 60 Feet Road at Pantnagar in suburban Ghatkopar on May 7.

"The crime does not appear to have been carried out by one person. There could have been two to three persons involved in the murder. Our teams have gone outside Mumbai as part of the probe," said a police officer involved in the probe.

According to police, the Ajmeras had told them they had a disagreement with their cook Ashok over his salary before he left work in February. "We are trying to locate him. Once he is traced, we can question him," the officer said.

Investigating teams had gone outside Mumbai and were also looking for the Ajmera family's former cook, who was spotted in the victim's building vicinity a few days before the crime by some neighbours, police said.

So far, police have questioned the Ajmera's drivers and other domestic helps, the building's two watchmen and employees of Jayant's company and have also managed to retrieve some CCTV footage from a residential building opposite Vaishali apartment, which has no surveillance cameras.

After returning from office, Jayant had found his wife lying in a pool of blood near the sofa placed in the flat's hall with her neck slit. Besides, cash and valuables worth about Rs 1.4 crore were stolen from the house, police said.
