Two organisations have extended a helping hand to poor students in Ganjam district of Odisha to enable them to continue their study.

Choudeswari Devanga Sangh, a weavers' organisation, has donated text-books to over 100 high school and college students. The benefited students are from Class VIII to Plus III, sources said.

Similarly, Ganjam Muslim Cultural Association gave away text-books to students of Class IX and X.

"The move will help the poor students continue their higher education," Corporator, Berhampur Municipal Corporation, Mamata Bisoi, said.

"The effort will help check dropout rate in the district", she added.

Bisoi was present at the distribution function held on Sunday.

"We are providing such help to the poor students for last 17 years. The funds are collected through donations from the community members while some of them are asked to adopt students for one year to meet their education expenses," said President of the weaver's organisation T Gopi.

President of the Muslim cultural association Haji Md Sharif said the organisation has been helping the poor students for the last 10 years.
