Two panchayat members among five robbers arrested

Police today claimed to have arrested a gang of robbers including two panchayat members who were allegedly involved in looting.

A large quantity of arms and ammunition were recovered from them.

Acting on a tip-off, a raid was conducted at a cremation ground at Basrawa village here, where five gang members were nabbed while they were planning to loot a fuel pump, SSP, Tulsi Ram today said.

The accused were identified as Mukhwinder Singh, Sarpanch of Ghas village, Balwinder Singh, Sarpanch of Kaler village, Harmesh Singh of Talwanti Bharth, Baljit Singh of Sekhwan and Ramesh, a migrant labourer from UP.
 

The accused had been involved in a number of robberies including looting a jewellery shop in Qadian, the SSP added.
