Two persons arrested for stealing sacks of bidi leaves

Two persons were arrested Monday for allegedly stealing 700 sacks of bidi leaves worth lakhs of rupees from a godown here in Palamau district, police said.

The police recovered the stolen sacks of bidi leaves after a raid was conducted by special police team formed to look into the case and apprehend the culprits, said Superintendent of Police, Indrajeet Mahatha.

Addressing a press conference here, Mahatha said the stolen Bidi leaves were supposed to be delivered to a West Bengal-based bidi company and were about Rs 42 lakh.

Based on the FIR registered by the godown owner, Raghvendra Tiwari, the SP said a special police team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police, Prem Nath was formed to probe the case.

 

In course of investigation, Mahatha said the special police team recovered 700 sacks of Bidi leaves kept hidden in Chiyanki locality.

The police also arrested Hardeep Singh Bagga and Pankaj Kumar Tiwari in this connection while search for other 11 persons was on.

The accused persons had stolen the Bidi leaves sacks from the godown recently.
