Two persons have been beaten up by local residents on suspicion of being child lifters in separate incidents in West Bengal's Alipurduar district, police said Monday.
A woman was thrashed by a mob at Badal Nagar area of Alipurduar town on Sunday evening after a local resident suspected her to be a child-lifter on finding her face veiled, a police officer said.
Police said another man was beaten up at Purba Bholar Dabri area of Alipurduar 1 block when local residents found him moving suspiciously with a child on Sunday evening.
The man claimed it was his child, which fell on deaf ears of the mob, the officer said.
The two persons were rescued by the police and admitted to Alipurduar district hospital.
They are reportedly out of danger, the police added.
