Two persons were killed in a firing over the land dispute in Mathia Hata village of Bihar's Gopalganj district on Monday.
District Magistrate Animesh Kumar Parashar said that the deceased have been identified as Suresh Mahto (45) and Ravi Mahto (23), both residents of Mathia Hata village under Kuchaikot police station of the district.
Police have also arrested one Guddu Mian, who resorted to firing in which the two were killed, the DM said.
The incident occurred in the morning when Guddu Mian, who had dispute with the deceased Suresh Mahto over a piece of land, came to know that the deceased was carrying out earth filling work on the disputed land, he said adding that Guddu Mian, alongwith two-three persons, reached the spot and started firing in which the two persons killed.
Suresh Mahto, the deceased, had got the piece of land from Bhudan Yagya Samiti, the DM said and added that both (deceased and accused) fought a case over the said piece of land.
Irated villagers attacked and damaged the house of the accused in which he had taken shelter after the firing incident but the police team rescued the accused from the villagers and later arrested him.

Police team also had to face the wrath of angry villagers who resorted to stone pelting when the team had gone to arrest the accused. Two-three policemen received minor injuries in the stone pelting.
Strict action would be taken against those involved in the stone pelting on the basis of video footage made by some local people, the DM said and added that police team is camping in the village.
The body has been sent to Sadar hospital for post mortem, he added.
