Two persons lynched, supporters of rival parties clash

Two youths were lynched and another was injured by a mob here which suspected them of being cow lifters, police said today.

Sajizul Sheikh, Amin Seikh and Sujan Seikh were beaten up by a mob which alleged that they were stealing cows from Beltala area of Katwa town yesterday, police said.

The three were rushed to Katwa Sub-Divisional Hospital where Sajizul and Amin succumbed to their injuries, late last night, they said.

On hearing the news, Congress MLA of Katwa town Rabindrantha Chattopadhay and Congress Councillor of Katwa Municipality Sudiptomoy Ghosh went to the hospital where Chattopadhay alleged that they were attacked by TMC supporters who also clashed with Congress supporters.
 

Local TMC leader Amar Ram denied the Congress MLA's allegations.

Police said supporters of two political parties clashed at Katwa Sub-Divisional Hospital but did not name them.

A large police force was sent from district headquarters town of Burdwan which brought the situation under control, police added.
