Two persons who had conned around 38 people and withdrawn Rs 20 lakh by swapping their debit cards with lookalike cards, have been arrested by the Crime Branch, police said today.

The Crime Branch investing a sudden spurt of ATM related frauds where "naive" persons accounts were emptied by the swindlers, laid a trap on specific input near Kumar Cinema in Chandni Chowk and caught Satyawan, 32, and Karambir,30, on December 5, said Ravindra Yadav, Joint Commissioner (Crime) of Delhi Police.

A total of 82 stolen ATM cards have been recovered from the duo.

The accused hailing from Haryana, used to frequent such ATM booths where people having less knowledge of the machine came to withdraw money. In the name of helping such persons, the duo used to fraudulently change their ATM cards with other cards, Yadav said.

Later, the ATM cards were used to siphon off the money from the account of the cheated persons, the officer said.

"They have been found involved in 38 cases of cheating to the tune of Rs 20 lakh in north, north-west, south west and west districts of Delhi. The concerned police stations have been informed for further action," added the officer.
