Two PNB staffers held for accepting Rs 1.8 crore in bribe

Manibhushan, senior manager in the Regional Stationary Department Centre of the Punjab National Bank and asset recovery agent Mendiratta were apprehended from here yesterday while accepting the bribe of Rs 1.8 crore from a complainant, they said.

According to the agency, the duo had sought illegal gratification from the complainant to set aside the 2010 auction sale of Meleagrina Building in suburban Bandra.

The duo was today produced before a special CBI court which remanded them in CBI custody till August 3.

The anti-corruption wing of CBI conducted searches at the residences of the accused in Mumbai, Patna and Bangalore yesterday and today and has seized several incriminating documents, the agency said.
