Two police constables killed as vehicle falls off road in Uttarakhand

Two police constables were killed and as many officials seriously injured after their vehicle fell off the road near Nainital on Tuesday while they were on VIP duty, police said.

The accident occurred at Veerbhatti in Jyolikot area, about 18 km from Nainital, Tallital police station officials said.

The police vehicle had escorted Governor Baby Rani Maurya to a school for a programme and was returning to check vehicular traffic on the route when it went off the road and fell on another road beneath it, it said.

All police personnel in the vehicle were rushed to the hospital where constables Lalit Mohan and Nandan Singh were declared dead.

 

Kathgodam Police Station Incharge Nandan Singh Rawat and Lalkuan Police Station Sub-Inspector Maya Bisht were seriously injured in the accident and are under treatment at the hospital.

The governor and Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat expressed grief at the loss of lives in the accident and instructed officials to ensure proper care of those who were injured and under treatment.
