Two police officers have been placed under suspension with for negligence of duty in relation with the case of custodial death of a woman from Meghalaya inside Dispur police station.
Guwahati Police Commissioner Mukesh Agrawal had order a probe into the incident by Joint Commissioner NMASF Haque, who submitted his report last night and confirmed it was a case of suicide.
"During the course of inquiry, it has been found that the death was due to asphysxia as a result of anti-mortem suicidal hanging, as also confirmed by the post-morten examination report," an official release said.

"As regards the lapses on the part of the police personnel as pointed out by the Enquiry Officer, ABSI (W) Pritilata Talukdar and ABSI Sanjib Kr Chetri are being placed under suspension with immediate effect for their negligence and dereliction of duty," the statement said.
In a case of custodial death, Victoria Dayoun Kharkongor (39) from Shillong, was found hanging inside a toilet of Dispur police station on Sunday night.
Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) leader Akhil Gogoi had alleged the woman was raped and murdered by the policemen inside Dispur police station, which was located just next to the Secretariat complex, and then the body was hanged inside a toilet to make it a case of suicide.
On this, the Guwahati Police had registered an FIR against Gogoi for making "objectionable remarks with criminal conspiracy... Which has created conflict between two communities."
The women's wing of KMSS Nari Mukti Sangram Samiti protested in front of the Dispur police station, in which four protesters were arrested and sent to judicial custody for "obstructing public servants from discharging their duties."
Meanwhile, the Assam Human Rights Commission has asked Kamrup Metropolitan Deputy Commissioner M Angamuthu to probe the incident and submit a report within 15 days.
The Meghalaya State Women's Commission has also sought a report from the Meghalaya Police on the unnatural death of the woman inside a police station in Assam.
