Two policemen have been arrested in China for allegedly beating a 47-year-old migrant woman worker to death after the photos of the incident went viral on the internet.

A procuratorate in Taiyuan approved the arrest of two police officers from Shanxi Province, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

The two officers, Guo Tiewei and Ren Haibo, were arrested for allegedly abusing power, according to the People's procuratorate of Taiyuan.

The arrests came after the photos of the policemen assaulting Zhou Xiuyun went viral on the internet. She was later found dead.

Previous investigation showed that on December 13, more than ten migrant workers were trying to enter a construction site. The guards stopped them at the excuse that they were not wearing safety helmets. Zhou was assaulted by police and died subsequently, the report said.

A policeman surnamed Wang was arrested earlier for allegedly causing Zhou's "unnatural death".

The local procuratorate has set up a special team to investigate the case. They are negotiating with Zhou's family to perform an autopsy to determine the exact cause of her death.
