Two robbery accused, arrested last week, escaped from a police jeep here while being taken to Adharwadi jail in Kalyan.
The two accused, Latif Arif Khan and Shamsu Mohammed Shaikh, were arrested on July 6 by the Narpoli police in Thane and were produced before the court yesterday, which remanded them to judicial custody, senior police inspector, Narpoli police station Anil Akade said today.
The duo were made to sit on the last seat in the police jeep, enroute to Adharwadi jail, while the police sat in the middle, Akade said, adding, the accused were not handcuffed and managed to get out of the vehicle, when it stopped at a traffic signal near Ashok Nagar area.

Not finding them inside the jeep, the two constables immediately got down but could not trace them in the nearby vicinity, he said.
Khan and Shaikh were arrested under section 454 of IPC (house-trespass) and have been now charged under under IPC section 224 (obstruction by a person to his lawful apprehension), police said.
