Two full grown sandalwood trees in the high security V O C park in the heart of the city, were found cut and smuggled out today, police said.

Morning walkers in the area found the 10 and 25-year-old trees cut at six inch from the ground level and informed the police.

It was not that easy to smuggle out the cut trees as the park, having different species of plants including four sandalwood trees, is covered with high compound wall and has two strong gates, police said.

The sound of power or battery operated saw used by the miscreants to cut the trees, would have alerted the watchman, they claimed.

Police, who already interrogated the watchman, are further investigating to find out if the incident happened with the connivance of any staff.
