Two persons were killed in Bihar's Lakhisarai district after being sprayed with bullets by motorcycle-borne assailants on Monday, police said.
The incident took place in Manour village under Chanan police station limits.
The deceased have been identified as 26-year-old Chhoti Sao and 35-year-old Mahendra Yadav, Lakhisarai SP Ranjan Kumar told PTI.
The deceased died on the spot and their bodies were sent for post-mortem, he said.
Eyewitnesses to the incident claimed before local news channels that two assailants were carrying automatic weapons and had raised pro-Maoist slogans before speeding away from the site after the killing.
Lakhisarai is among the districts identified by the Union Home Ministry in February this year as affected by Left Wing Extremism.
However, Additional Superintendent of Police (Operations) Pawan Upadhyay, who visited the site, told reporters, "We would be able to confirm whether the assailants were Maoists or not only after thorough investigation.
