Two sisters died while their mother and brother were hospitalised after they allegedly tried to commit suicide over financial crisis in Chhattisgarh's Korba district, police said today.

While both the sisters Rani (24) and Rashmi (22) died, their mother Saroj Agrawal (50) and brother Shubham (20) were undergoing treatment at a hospital in Korba.

The incident took place last night at Chhuri Nagar panchayat, around 22 km from here, Katghora Sub Divisional Officer of Police (SDOP), Sanjay Mahadeva said.

Saroj, who is paralytic, was facing financial crisis for the past few months and as she was not getting assistance from anyone, she alongwith her three children decided to commit suicide, he said.

She had lost her husband 10 years back and since then she was living at her husband's maternal uncle's house at Chhuri, the SDOP said.

On Sunday at around 10.30 PM, all the four allegedly consumed poison and subsequently the three siblings jumped into a well near their home.

Neighbours on hearing their cries, fished them out and rushed to a local hospital, but Rani and Rashmi succumbed, he said.

However, Saroj and her son were admitted in a serious condition to the NTPC Hospital where they are under observation, he added.

A case has been registered in this connection, the SDOP said, adding a probe is underway.
