Two suspected drug peddlers were arrested from Jaleswar in Odisha's Balasore district and brown sugar valued at over Rs 6 lakh was seized from them.

Acting on a tip-off, the state excise officials nabbed the duo yesterday with 60 grams of brown sugar that they had procured from a supplier, excise inspector Karunakar Tiwari said.

While the supplier managed to escape, the two suspected peddlers, identified as Sanjay Mahanty and Santosh Pattanaik, were taken into custody, said Tiwari.

"The duo hailed from Laxmi Sagar area in Bhubaneswar. They had struck a deal with the supplier, who could be running a drug network along the Odisha-West Bengal border, and reached Jaleshwar to collect the contraband," he said

The value of the contraband was estimated to be around Rs 6 lakh, he added.
