Two suspected cases of paid news in the run-up to January 31 local civic polls have come to the light and are being investigated by the Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC) here.

"In the run-up to the civic polls, two cases of paid news have come to the notice of MCMC which has already met over the issue and started investigation into it," district returning officer and collector Akash Tripathi told reporters today.

He said the two cases are connected with the elections for the post of Mayoress.

If MCMC finds in its probe that the news had been published for money by the candidates concerned, the amount spent on their publication will be added in the electioneering expenditure incurred by them.

The city is going to the polls tomorrow and the counting of votes is scheduled for February 4.
