Two swallow poisonous substance, die on way to hospital

Two persons allegedly committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance while a woman jumped into a river and was believed to have drowned in separate incidents in north Kashmir, police said today.

Reyaz Ahmad Bhat swallowed some poisonous substance at his home in Mired Sheeri area in Baramulla, a police spokesman said, adding he died on way to a hospital.

In another incident, Fayaz Ahmad Mir also consumed some poisonous substance at his home in Nutnoosa area in Kupwara, the spokesman said.

Mir was rushed to SKIMS Soura where he was declared brought dead.

The reason behind the two taking the extreme step was not immediately known, the spokesman said adding after completing all medico-legal formalities, both the bodies were handed over to their legal heirs for last rites.
 

In another incident, a woman jumped into river Jhelum at cement bridge Baramulla and was presumed dead, the spokesman said.

He said efforts were on to retrieve the body and to ascertain the identity of the woman.
