Two TMC corporators booked for creating ruckus

Two Congress corporators of Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) were booked here for allegedly creating ruckus in the corporation premises last week, police said today.

Corporators Vikrant Chavan and Rajan Kini have been booked for allegedly creating ruckus and vandalising property inside the TMC premises on Friday, according to complaint filed by its chief security officer Sukram Jadhav yesterday, Naupada police station Inspector DD Pagare said.

The two corporators got into a verbal feud during lunch break of the General Body meeting and later manhandled each other, following which Mayor Sanjay More intervened and pacified the situation.

However, after sometime a group of supporters of Kini and Chavan reached the corporation office and clashed with each other, vandalising the premises, the officer said.
 

A case has been lodged under sections 141 (unlawful assembly), 147 (punishment for rioting), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and other relevant sections of IPC.

Meanwhile, TMC Mayor in a statement issued last night condemned the incident and said it has brought bad name to the corporation.
