Two villages in Anand district declared as 'cholera-affected'

Two villages in Anand district of Gujarat has been declared as "cholera-hit", a senior administration official said today.

"Cholera cases were found at Boria and Silvai villages of Petlad tehsil," district health officer R B Patel said today.

"At Boria, the surrounding area upto 10 km has also been declared as cholera-prone. As many as 261 cases of diarrhoea and vomiting were reported from the area yesterday, of which two were confirmed to be cholera cases," he said.

Government medical teams found that drinking water sources were contaminated after the rains. Alternative drinking water arrangement were made for the village and the teams were engaged in treating the victims, the officer said.
 

Patel said last week more than 50 cases of diarrhoea and vomiting were reported at Silvai, of which one was confirmed as cholera infection.

However, the situation was under control, he added.
