Two Wakf Board officials held for taking bribe

The state vigilance bureau today arrested two local officials of Waqf Board while accepting a bribe of Rs 53,000 from a person here.

Tek Chand, a resident of Pundri, wanted to take a 30 yard plot adjoining his own plot on lease from the Waqf Board,

He contacted Mohammad Illiyas an estate officer and rent clerk Nizam Mohammad, who raised a demand of Rs 1.75 lakh in lieu of allotment of the plot, sources said.

On receiving a complaint, the deputy commissioner referred the matter to state vigilance bureau, which laid a trap and caught the two red-handed while accepting the bribe, said inspector Ranbir Singh Malik.
 

Both were booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
