Bittu and Babloo, both residents of Haridwar, were arrested last night from the Vidhan Sabha crossing in the city following a tip-off, SSP Keval Khurana said.

Police had information that the two wildlife smugglers were coming to the city to sell the reindeer horns to a foreigner with whom they had struck a deal, the SSP said.

A trap was laid and the duo was arrested as soon as they got down from a bus coming from Haridwar near the Vidhan Sabha crossing here, he said.

Their bags were checked and two reindeer heads and horns, weighing 12 kgs were recovered from their possession, he said.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the duo had been offered Rs 5 lakh for the reindeer parts by a foreigner, Khurana said, adding a case has been registered against them under the Wildlife Protection Act.
