Two elderly women were today fatally hit by a speeding car on Areraj-Harsiddhi road under Harsiddhi police station area in East Champaran district, police said.
The incident took place near Bada Harpur village as two women, identified as Reyazul Nisha (62) and Masudan Khatun (64), daily wagers, were walking on roadside when the car knocked them down.
While Masudan Khatun died on the spot, the other woman succumbed to injuries on way to hospital, police said.
The car driver fled with his vehicle.
The incident sparked off a protest by local people who blocked Areraj-Harsiddhi road for sometime by carrying the bodies there and demanded compensation to the aggrieved families, police said.
