65-year-old Shanti Devi and Reshma Rani, 67, -- both residing in houses barely 500 metres apart in Sector-3 of Rohini South -- were stabbed by robbers at around 1.30 AM, a senior police official said, adding Shanti Devi died during treatment in Jaipur Golden hospital while Reshma died at Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Hospital.

Police have apprehended three persons and is questioning them, the official said.

The robbers entered Shanti's four-story house and one of them held her hostage on knife point while the searched for valuables.

Bhimsen, the youngest son of Shanti, who used to live with her and his father, woke up on hearing the commotion and caught one of them, police said.

In the meantime, a third robber entered the house and stabbed his mother and fled from the spot.

According to police, the attackers could manage to take a few hundred rupees and a purse from the house before escaping.

In the second incident, which happened soon after, Reshma Rani was found stabbed at the ground floor of her daughter's three-storey house, where she had been staying.

Rani's daughter and other family members have been living on other floors. Rani alerted her family members, who were sleeping on the upper floors, by ringing a bell fixed in her room.

Police suspect that the same were involved in two incidents as the purse missing from Shanti's house was found at Rani's house.
