Two women killed as car falls into canal, four missing

Two women were killed and four others missing after a car carrying seven persons, including three children, fell into Sirhind canal near Machhiwara today.

"The car was carrying seven persons. While the car driver was rescued, bodies of two women have so far been fished out. The rest of the passengers are still missing and efforts are on to trace them," Khanna SSP Gurpreet Singh Gill said.

The deceased were identified as Manpreet Kaur and Rajwinder Kaur, both hailing from Haryana. Rajwinder's body was recovered about 15 km away from the accident spot, police said.

A woman identified as Gurpreet Kaur and three children are still missing, while Dalbir Singh, who was driving the car, was rescued by the villagers.
 

The car occupants were on their way to Ladwa near Kurukshetra when the mishap occurred.
