In separate incidents, two women were allegedly killed by their in-laws over dowry demand in Uttar Pradesh, police said today.

Aisha, 25, was found hanging from the ceiling at her home in Thanabhawan town in neighbouring Shamli district, they said.

"On the basis of the complaint filed by the victim's family, an FIR has been registered against her husband Shahjan, father-in-law Sagiruddin, and brothers-in-law Arif and Amaj," a police official said.

Aisha's family members claimed that she was being harassed for dowry since last year when the marriage took place.

They further alleged that her body was hanged from the ceiling to mislead the police.

In another case, 23-year-old Anjum Begum was allegedly killed by her in-laws over dowry in Umerpur village here yesterday.

"An FIR has been registered against Begum's husband Kasim and four others, who are absconding," a police official said.

Further probe is on in both the cases, police said.
