Additional Sessions Judge Yashwant Kumar sentenced Delhi residents Deepak Lal, 24 and Vicky, 26 for trying to kill Anil and Sumit.

"Considering the totality of the facts and circumstances of the case, both convicts are sentenced to four and half a year of rigorous imprisonment under section 307 of the IPC, coupled with a fine of Rs 5,000 each. Both are also sentenced to three years of rigorous imprisonment under the Arms Act with a fine of Rs 3,000 each.

"Convicts shall get the benefit of section 428 of the CrPC for the period during which they remained in custody during investigation/trial," the judge said.

Defence counsel had sought lenient sentences for the convicts saying both of them were young and were the sole bread winners of their respective families.

According to the prosecution, the duo had first beaten up Anil on March 22, 2008 evening and when he returned with his cousin Sumit, an argument ensued and the duo stabbed the two brothers and fled the scene.

As the injured brothers were taken back home, Vicky and Deepak went to their home with country-made pistols and threatened them and their family members.

Deepak even fired at Anil, the prosecution told the court adding the bullet, however, missed the target. The two fled the crime scene after committing the offence.

The police later recovered one of the guns and a knife from a nearby jhuggi, while the second pistol and a bullet was recovered from Deepak, said the prosecution.
